FLOWERY BRANCH -- Atlanta Falcons linebacker Sean Weatherspoon missed practice Wednesday because of a right ankle injury that caused him to leave last week's win at Philadelphia and not return.

Weatherspoon, the team's leading tackler, is the leader of Atlanta's defense and stays on the field for almost every snap. He was getting treatment in the training room for a low ankle sprain and did not watch practice.

If Weatherspoon can't play when the Falcons (7-0) host Dallas (3-4) on Sunday, second-year veteran Akeem Dent will start in his place.

Falcons coach Mike Smith indicated that the team will have better understanding of the extent of his injury by Thursday.

Weatherspoon has 44 solo tackles, two passes defended, three sacks, four tackles for lost yardage, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.
