GAINESVILLE - Pending the outcome of superstorm Sandy's path, Stacey Dickson, President of the Lake Lanier Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB), will be heading to the Southeast Tourism Society's (STS) Fall Forum in Virgina Beach, Va., this week, and two high school interns are now working wit the agency.

The CVB has been nominated for the 2012 Shining Example Award for Internet Excellence.

STS's Shining Example Awards are selected annually from tourism marketing agencies within the organization's 12-state service area. Over 800 tourism professionals are members of the Southeast Tourism Society representing CVBs, attractions, resorts and hotels in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee. Kentucky, Virginia, West Virginia and Arkansas. The Shining Example Award winners will be announced at a black tie event on November 1.

INTERNS ON BOARD

The CVB has once again partnered with Lanier Charter Career Academy and is offering internships this year. They are Ellie Forrester and KayLynn Samples. These students are a part of the Hall County School System's DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America) program, having won a major national award last year for their Buy Hall Y'all project.

Both are seniors (Forrester - North Hall, Samples - Chestatee) with plans for another DECA project this year, focusing on assisting the Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation through marketing and a special event to be held in Hall County this winter. Both will be working with the CVB three hours each day through the end of the school year. Their CVB projects will include guest blogging on the agency's website, writing a feature article for the 2013 Slip Away magazine and assisting with public information displays in the lobby.
