Cold weather delays work on Hwy. 53

DAWSONVILLE - Georgia DOT planned to shift traffic on State Route 53 at Thompson/Etowah River Road Tuesday but cold temperatures have prevented the work needed prior to shifting traffic.

"There is asphalt work that needs to be finished before traffic can be moved and asphalt work is temperature sensitive so the shift has been delayed. After these cold temperatures leave the area, we will reschedule the asphalt work and shift traffic. Temperatures need to be in the 50s and 60s for the type of asphalt work we need to complete. We will let the community know when we reschedule," explained Harold Mull, DOT District Construction Engineer.

This $2.7 million construction project includes construction of turning lanes on State Route 53 and changing the grade on all four roadways to improve sight distance for motorists. The project completion date is June 30, 2013 and the contractor is Baldwin Paving Company of Marietta.
