DAWSONVILLE Georgia DOT has announced that traffic on State Route 53 at Thompson/Etowah River Road will be scooted over Tuesday, October 30 if the weather permits.

By shifting or scooting over the travel lanes of SR 53, we can create room for the contractor to begin building a retaining wall. Please slow down through the area and follow the signs as this is the first of many changes to occur during construction. There will be signs at the work zone to let motorists know this change is coming," said Harold Mull, DOT District Construction Engineer.

"If the weather does not cooperate and the date is shifted, the signs on the project will have that information too."

This $2.7 million construction project includes construction of turning lanes on State Route 53 as well as changing the grade on all four roadways to improve sight distance for motorists.

The project completion date is June 30, 2013. The contractor is Baldwin Paving Company of Marietta.
