HOMER -- East Hall stormed to its second straight region victory on Friday, and while the Vikings needed overtime last week to dispatch West Hall, they kept it much simpler this week.

East Hall posted 21 unanswered points in the third quarter to run away with a 56-20 defeat of Banks County.

Austen Mahaffey helped spark the Vikings' offensive explosion, rushing for 230 yards and three touchdowns on just 15 carries, while also catching four passes for 48 yards.

East Hall (4-4, 2-3 Region 7-AAA) traded leads with Banks County throughout the first quarter, including a 58-yard touchdown jaunt from Mahaffey and a blocked punt return for a score from Corey Reece. But the Vikings began to pull away in the second quarter with three straight touchdowns -- including a two-yard blast from Edward Vergara and an eight-yard run from Mahaffey.

The Leopards (3-5, 2-3) got an answer from Greg Cannon, who hauled in a 49-yard touchdown pass from Noah Trebec just before the interval but still trailed 35-20.

East Hall continued to push its advantage in the third quarter, as Mahaffey tacked on a 55-yard scoring run and Ryan Seabolt snagged a Banks County pass and returned it 30 yards for a score.

The Vikings finished the night with 474 yards of offense, including 359 rushing. Vergara added 67 yards on the ground, while Quay Jarrells added 43 yards and a touchdown.

Banks County managed just 216 yards, including 74 yards rushing from Wes Faulkner.

East Hall will play host to Buford next week. Banks County, meanwhile, will look to bounce back against North Hall in Gainesville.
