"I made the choice to reach out and make a difference. What started as my personal project of compassion and appreciation has now evolved into a community effort to aid our troops," writes Remington M. Youngblood, 11, a sixth-grader at Riverwatch Middle School in Forsyth County and founder of CHANGE 4 GEORGIA.
According to the website www.change4georgia.org, the organization is a "community service program that is inclusive to students and provides them with opportunities to thank our soldiers for their service, dedication and sacrifice in protecting our freedom and keeping our country secure. It was founded by a fifth grader in Forsyth County, Georgia and benefits our brave troops by collecting items from their "Wish List" that they need or want. These are items that are not readily available or not provided, but that add comfort and fit in their backpacks."
In addition to Youngblood's presentation, state Sen. Butch Miller will be on hand to make a special presentation on behalf of CALM.
Individuals from the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, Marine Corps League, Freedom Riders and the North Georgia Veterans Association have been invited to attend.
