Stewards of Children training scheduled Oct. 25, Nov. 8 in Gainesville

GAINESVILLE - The Hall County Child Sexual Abuse Prevention Initiative has scheduled two Stewards of Children training sessions for adults who want to learn how to prevent child sexual abuse in the community.

The Stewards of Children training teaches adults how to prevent, recognize and react responsibly to child sexual abuse. The training qualifies for Continuing Education Units for Licensed Social Workers.

The first session is this Thursday, October 25 from 9:00 a.m. to noon at the Little House at 603 Washington Street in Gainesville. The second session will be held on November 8 from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Westminster Church on Thompson Bridge Road in Gainesville.

The cost of the training is $15. Checks can be made out to Adults Protecting Children, Inc. Organizers ask that participants register ahead of the event.

The Hall County Initiative is made up of over 30 agencies and churches from all across Hall County. This collaborative effort has a goal of training 5% of the adult population in Stewards of Children (7,000 adults) over the next 5 years. Some of the organizations that have been trained already are The DA's Office, The Solicitor's Office, Boys and Girls Club, Rape Response, Gateway Domestic Violence Center, INK, Quilan Visual Arts Center, Westminster Church, Free Chapel Church and Chestnut Mt. Presbyterian Church.
