DAHLONEGA - Capping off the 2012 Cottrell Speaker Series, Rich McKay, who is president and CEO of the Atlanta Falcons, will speak Nov. 1 at North Georgia College & State University (NGCSU) about the economic and competitive structures of the National Football League (NFL).

McKay is in charge of all team business operations, including working on contract negotiations and managing the team's salary cap. The many departments under his direction include finance, marketing, ticket sales and service, retail, facilities and logistics, football communications and public relations, community relations, and human resources.

This football season marks McKay's 21st in the NFL and his eighth as president of the Falcons. He has co-chaired the NFL's Competition Committee since 1994, and on March 1, 2012, McKay was named chairman of the committee by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. The Competition Committee, which is made up of NFL head coaches and league executives, studies the game and recommends rule changes and modifications that ensure player safety while promoting competitiveness in the league.

Through examining the competitive and economic structures of the NFL, McKay will showcase the reasons why the NFL has become the dominant sports league and brand in the U.S.

McKay earned a bachelor's degree in 1981 from Princeton University and graduated from Stetson's College of Law in 1984. He worked at the Tampa law firm of Hill, Ward, and Henderson, P.A., from 1986 to 1992, where he served as general counsel for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

All presentations in the series are open to the public and free of charge. Each session will be held in the second floor auditorium (room 232) of the university's Health and Natural Sciences Building at 159 Sunset Drive, Dahlonega. Sessions begin at 12:55 p.m. and conclude at 1:50 p.m.
