TIGER -- Washington-Wilkes outscored Rabun County 21-0 in the second half to blow open a close game en route to a 41-12 win Friday night in a crucial Region 8-AA game for both teams.

The matchup was a battle for second place in the region behind Jefferson, which owns wins over both teams.

The Tigers (7-1, 4-1 in region) jumped out to a 13-0 lead early in the second quarter but Rabun County (4-3, 2-2) pulled to within 13-12 on a pair of touchdown passes from Wes Holcombe with just four minutes left in the half.

But Washington-Wilkes pushed its lead to 20-12 with 42 seconds left in the first half and then 27-12 early in the third quarter to take control of the game. Two fourth quarter touchdowns for the Tigers put the game out of reach.

The Tigers offense was in full throttle piling up 605 total yards for the game while the defense held Rabun County to just 239 total yards, only 56 rushing.

Holcombe finished with 183 yards passing for the Wildcats, who dropped their second straight region game at home in as many weeks.
