UNDATED - The Georgia Secretary of State's Office has reported that early voting is moving at a slower pace across the state than it did in 2008, but Hall County elections officials said that's not the case locally.

State officials reported that as of Tuesday, more than 123,800 votes had been cast so far in Georgia for the upcoming general election, a slower pace than in the days before the 2008 presidential election.

The total so far puts Georgia on a far slower pace than four years ago, when the state first expanded early voting in time for the 2008 presidential election.

Tuesday's total included absentee ballots returned by mail and ballots cast during Georgia's early "in-person" voting period, which began Monday.

Hall County Elections Director Charlotte Sosebee said that early voting at the elections office on Brown's Bridge Road was "massive."

She reported more than 1,000 ballots were cast on Monday, the first day of advance voting for the general election, and more than 900 were cast on Tuesday. She said the crowds on Wednesday were keeping pace with the first two days of the week.

Despite the large crowds, Sosebee said everything has been running smoothly.

"I would say that the most time that a voter would be waiting to vote is, maybe, 30 minutes."

Sosebee said there are currently 84,744 are active voters in Hall County. She said the final number of voters may be higher, however, because of voter applications that were mailed by the October 9 deadline, but are still being processed by the Secretary of State's Office.

Early, or advance, voting continues across the state until November 2. One Saturday voting day has been scheduled for October 27.
