County officials just the last few days began reopening three roads that were closed because of a collapsed drain and damage to piping.
Public Works Director Ken Reardon says Willie Robinson Road suffered $49,262 in damages; Lee Road, damages totaling $42,146; and Ben Lee Road, $23,625.
Rearden says funding will be used from SPLOST VI for the repairs because existing pipes installed decades ago were undersized. He says SPLOST money can be applied to upgrade draining.
Reardon also says there was minor damage to a number of other roads throughout the county due to stopped up pipes, trees down, etc.
The problems occurred over a two-day period, Oct. 1-2, when 5.8 inches of rain (recorded at Lee Gilmer Memorial Airport) fell in Gainesville. (See earlier story.)
