The award was given at the 8th Annual Domestic Violence Breakfast and Briefing at the Gainesville Public Safety Building.
Gateway Domestic Violence Center began an effort to raise funds for transitional housing approximately two years ago. The agency has already developed community partnerships with the Gainesville Kiwanis Club, the Junior League of Gainesville Hall County, Habitat for Humanity Hall County, local churches and a number of other organizations to raise the funds that will be necessary to complete the project.
"There is a tremendous need for housing for women and children who have fled domestic violence in our community," said Jessica Butler, executive director at Gateway. "The support of Hall County commissioners, along with community partners, is going to allow us to provide more victims of domestic violence with a safe place to live."
The facility, which will be in a confidential location for the safety of the residents housed there, will contain seven apartments and space for support groups.
