According to the Federal Elections Commission (FEC), as of last Thursday, Romney had received contributions totaling $252,748 from people living in 3-0-5 zip codes, an area which stretches from South Hall to Rabun County and Toccoa to Fannin County. President Obama, meanwhile, can count $96,499 in contributions from the same area - one of the most conservative parts of the state.
The FEC says there have been 556 contributions to Romey's campaign from the area, a number of them involving more than one contribution from an individual. The amounts range from four dollars to $2,500. Forty-two of the contributions have totaled $2,500 each. By law, the maximum amount an individual may contribute is $2,500 for the primary and $2,500 for the general election.
Meanwhile, the number of contributions to President Obama's campaign totals 1,233 but the individual amounts have been much smaller than those Romney has received - with most appearing to be $100 or less.
In all, Georgians have contributed $11.9 million to the two candidates - $6.4 million to Romney and $5.5 million to Obama. The FEC says Georgians gave another $3.1 million to the several men and women who challenged Romney for the GOP nomination leading up to the July Republican Primary. Meanwhile, the $5.5 million that went to Obama represents the total amount contributed to the Democratic cause. The President was the only Democratic presidential candidate running in the party's primary in the state.
