JEFFERSON -- The rest of Region 8-AA had no choice but to stand up and take notice of Jefferson after the Dragons dismantled Class AA No. 7 Washington-Wilkes 31-0 Friday at Memorial Stadium.

The win kept the Dragons (4-1, 2-0 in region) tied with surprising Rabun County (4-1, 2-0) atop the region standings. The two teams will meet next week in Tiger for first place at the halfway point of the season.

The win wasn't as surprising as the score. Washington-Wilkes (5-1, 2-1) came in averaging over 42 points a game and allowed just 12 total points in 2012. Jefferson held the Tigers to 136 total yards, just 47 on the ground while piling up 411 yards of offense, 193 rushing.

Senior quarterback Bryant Shirreffs led the way again for the Dragons with 218 yards on 16-of-22 passing and one touchdown. He also ran for 54 yards and two touchdowns.

Walter Chapeau had three catches for 60 yards and one touchdown and Sammy Williams led the ground attack with 81 yards and one touchdown on 14 carries for Jefferson.
Jefferson's Bryant Shirreffs led the Dragons to a stunning 31-0 win over Washington-Wilkes Friday night.
