It is described as a "customizable building activity that sparks creativity in participants by allowing them to use their imaginations to create LEGO models around a theme." The theme for the GMC event is "Gainesville City Schools 120 years - Building Our Future."
Students and members of the community will be given the opportunity to work together to explore and build either their vision of Gainesville 120 years ago or their vision of Gainesville 120 years in the future.
The city school system will also be spotlighting its three robotics teams, which are currently working on the First Lego League Senior Solutions competition. Team members are reaching out of senior citizens in the Gainesville area, hoping for a chance to learn about the challenges they face and what is great about being a senior citizen.
The LEGO Education Showcase Grant was made available through Education Blueprints Association, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing learning resources and programs that deliver education solutions to individuals, teachers, and students. Only 100 LEGO Education Showcase Grants were available nation-wide.
The Oct. 17 event is open to the first 200 participants. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
