HELEN -- The North Hall boys and White County girls set down a marker for what's to come on Thursday at the Mountain Invitational cross country meet in Helen.

The Trojans claimed the boys championship on the course that will also play host to the Region 7-AAA meet in November, while the Lady Warriors also ran their way to first -- aided by a record-setting pace from freshman Jenna Gearing.

It was an impressive day for several area teams, competing in a field of 30 programs.

North Hall's Witt Nix finished in 16 minutes, 31.8 seconds to claim the individual gold. The Trojans also claimed second place, with Bryce Schuebert finishing two seconds behind Nix.

In the girls race, Gearing sprinted to a 18:49.1, breaking a four-year-old record and posting the best time in the state so far this season. Union County's Emma Garrison followed up in second place (19:22).

The Lakeview Academy boys also ran well at the meet, with Dustin Snyder leading the way in seventh place, breaking his own school record at 16:52 by 21 seconds. The Lions finished sixth as a team. Gainesville also finished eighth, while Chestatee was ninth and West Hall 10th.

Meanwhile, the North Hall girls also finished third, while Chestatee came in sixth. North Forsyth also placed eighth, while Union County was ninth and West Hall 10th.
