Tadmore ES teacher surprised with supplies from OfficeMax

TADMORE - This week Tadmore Elementary teacher Jon Kostulakos was surprised by visitors to his classroom from OfficeMax who had come to announce that he had been selected as one of 1,000 teachers across the nation to receive their annual "A Day Made Better" Award.

The award includes $1,000 worth of school supplies, which is OfficeMax's way of giving back to teachers, the vast majority of whom spent their own money to enhance learning for their students.

Kostulakos was recommended for the award by Tadmore Assistant Principal Judy Mancusco.

Kostulakos, known to the students as "Mr. K" is a technology teacher at Tadmore.

"Jon is a dedicated, collegial, proactive educator," Mancusco said. "He is an excellent classroom instructor. Jon always looks for ways to improve and enhance his own instruction as well as lending a hand to his colleagues to improve and enhance their instruction."

She described Kostulakos as "an active learner himself," who recently completed his gifted certification and is interested in pursuing another degree.

"Jon plans and instructs with the best interest of the students in mind. He keeps his focus on the strengths, as well as the needs and interests of his students, in order to maximize their potential. Jon makes everyday a better day at Tadmore."

This is the sixth year of OfficeMax's "A Day Made Better" program.
