GAINESVILLE -- Tuesday's was just the kind of game the Chestatee girls basketball team needed.

After going 1-2 over the past three contests -- all subregion games -- the Lady War Eagles bounced back with a vengeance, ripping Lumpkin County 52-26 in Gainesville.

After an up-and-down first quarter, Chestatee (12-6, 2-2 Region 8A-AAA) turned to its lockdown defense, which allowed just 16 points through the final three quarters.

The Lady War Eagles put the contest away late in the third quarter, taking off on an 11-0 run over a one-minute span. Maegan Kenimer sparked the push, scoring on back-to-back lay-ups before Courtney May drained a 3-pointer for a 42-19 Chestatee lead with 1:35 left in the quarter.

Lumpkin County had no real answer for Kenimer, who scored a game-high 17 points and also grabbed 6 rebounds. Bridgette Kelly also put up eight points, while Erin Clifford scored seven and nabbed five rebounds.

Morgan Wood and Dakota Sullens each scored six points to lead the Lady Indians.

Lumpkin County battled through the first eight minutes, staying within 14-10 at the end of the first quarter. But the Lady Indians managed just four points in the second quarter, as the Lady War Eagles began to pull away with 13 points for a 27-14 halftime advantage -- including a 3-pointer at the buzzer for Katie Arthur. Chestatee put a stranglehold on the game in the third quarter, outscoring the visitors 16-7 just after the interval.

Chestatee will look to keep rolling on Friday when it travels to face White County. Lumpkin County will play host to Franklin County.
