Mill Creek fends off Cherokee with Russ out

HOSCHTON -- Mill Creek lost starting quarterback John Russ but still pulled out a 28-0 victory over Cherokee on Friday night in Hoschton.

The Hawks moved to 3-0 for the first time in program history, getting touchdowns from several different players, including two from Alonzo Collins, who also had three rushes for 51 yards.

Russ left the game early and was replaced by James Holder, who finished 5 of 9 for 70 yards and a touchdown pass to Michael Cheeks.

Jacorey Lewis also rushed 10 times for 59 yards and a score for Mill Creek.

The Hawks defense forced two interceptions from Cherokee, which dominated possession with its veer offense but couldn't get on the scoreboard.

Mill Creek will will travel to take on Mountain View next week.
