GAINESVILLE -- Gainesville coach Bruce Miller noted this week that his team looked ready to bounce back from a season-opening loss at Buford.

Was he ever right.

The Red Elephants scored 34 unanswered points to seal a 40-3 win over White County on Friday at City Park.

Gainesville (1-1) got four touchdowns and 351 total yards from quarterback Deshaun Watson as the Red Elephants went into their bye week on a positive note. Receiver Stephen Mason also enjoyed a big night, catching nine passes for 73 yards.

Watson got the game going with an 8-yard scoring run and Gainesville never trailed, though White County answered with a 37-yard field goal from Tucker Rey with 4:09 left in the first quarter to pull within 6-3 (Gainesville missed its first extra point attempt).

Keyontra Harrison (5 receptions, 66 yards) added a 20-yard touchdown run to put the Red Elephants in control late in the first quarter and a 10-yard touchdown blast from Watson gave Gainesville a 20-3 halftime advantage.

Harrison hauled in a 14-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter -- opening a 20-0 run over the 12 minute span that also saw Jay Gaudlock and Mason put up touchdowns.

White County (0-2) managed 152 total yards during the game, including 37 yards rushing and 12 passing from quarterback Will Brock. Ryan Kennedy and Michael Limbaugh also had 29 and 27 yards rushing, respectively.

The Warriors will look to bounce back next week when they play host to West Hall.

Gainesville has a bye next week before playing host to North Hall on Sept. 16.
