Couch named assistant police chief

GAINESVILLE - Gainesville Police Chief Brian Kelly has announced the hiring of Gerald Couch, a 30-year veteran with the Hall County Sheriff's Office, as his second in command.

Couch retired from Hall County Friday and will begin his new position as Major with the Gainesville Police Department April 18.

Chief Kelly selected Couch from 28 candidates saying he is extremely knowledgeable about the Law Enforcement Profession, our community and the organizations the department works with to address quality of life issues and criminal incidents occurring in this jurisdiction.

"Gerald is a veteran officer who will bring several thousand hours of specialized Law Enforcement training to the Gainesville Police Department ranging from uniformed operations to criminal investigations, as well as, supervision and management of law enforcement operations and personnel," Kelly said. "He is highly motivated, has a high level of self-initiative, is invested in our community and wants to do all he can to assist in making our community one of the safest around."

Couch's job will include assisting Chief Kelly in planning and directing day to day operations of the police department.
