New DNR law enforcement supervisor for NE Ga.

GAINESVILLE - The Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Wildlife Resources Division recently selected Captain Mark Padgett as the new Region Supervisor for the Region II Law Enforcement Office, headquartered in Gainesville. He fills the position left vacant by retired Captain Rick Godfrey. Region II encompasses the northeastern part of the state.

"I am very pleased to announce the promotion of Capt. Mark Padgett as he has been of such tremendous value to this agency over his 25 year career," said Division Law Enforcement Chief Homer Bryson. "I truly look forward to seeing him provide leadership as the Region Supervisor of Northeast Georgia and continuing to give his all to ensure the safety of the public and the protection of the natural resources of this State."

A WRD Law Enforcement Region Supervisor must be able to perform several duties including providing positive leadership, supervising regional personnel, enforcing game and fish laws, environmental laws, the Georgia boating safety act and all applicable DNR laws, rules and regulations, plus attending and assisting with the coordination of training sessions and handling administrative responsibilities related to regional operations.

Capt. Mark Padgett began working for the WRD Law Enforcement Section in 1985 in the Brunswick office. He transferred to Region II-Gainesville in 1988 and was assigned to Lake Hartwell where he was promoted to Corporal. Since 2004, he has served as the Region III-Thomson (east central) Administrative Sergeant. He has a Bachelor's Degree in History (Presbyterian College), and served as a History teacher and football/baseball coach for 5 years at Appling and Elbert County High Schools, and is completing a Master's Degree in Public Administration (Columbus State University). Padgett lives with Renee, his wife of 29
years, and they have two grown children Brett and Ashley.
