WINDER - A close call for a Winder resident Monday afternoon when a medium sized truck careened off Highway 211 and into a house near the intersection of Mears Street.

"The truck went off the roadway [and] it went through a power pole, knocking the power lines down, and continued into the carport at the front part of the house," said Lt. Scott Dakin with Barrow County Emergency Services.

Dakin said the resident of the house was home at the time and was not hurt, but the driver of the truck was taken to an area hospital for treatment. Highway 211 remained closed for a few hours after the accident so that the power pole could be replaced.

The Barrow County Sheriff's Office is investigating the accident.
