GAINESVILLE - A woman who jumped from a bridge into Lake Lanier to avoid an accident has been released from the hospital.

Bianca Vera left the hospital Sunday and was resting at her parents' home.

Vera jumped off a four-story bridge near Gainesville Marina Thursday morning because she said a tractor-trailer truck was skidding on ice and headed toward her. Police said that a truck did strike her car.

Vera said it took her about 45 minutes to swim 100 yards to shore in the cold water. She suffered a broken vertebrae and bruises but is expected to fully recover.
