BUFORD - The machete-wielding 15-year-old Buford boy who was shot and killed by police Monday has been identified as Dawntree Ta'Shawn Williams.

Gwinnett County Police released his name Tuesday morning.

Corporal Jake Smith said officers responded to a call around 3:15 in the 3300 block of Windward Gate Lane.

"Basically it was for a suspect who was threatening family members with a machete," said Smith.

Smith said Williams refused to drop the weapon as he charged officers and the officers were forced to shoot him. Smith said the teen was taken to a hospital where he later died.

A neighbor says the boy had mental problems and that police had been called to the home on several occasions in the past few months in response to domestic problems.
