ATLANTA - The Georgia Association of Latino Elected Officials (GALEO) has launched "a massive non-partisan voter mobilization campaign" to register 100,000 new voters in time for the General Election in November.

Given that many Gubernatorial candidates are expressing support for the controversial Arizona law, SB 1070, and support for other anti-immigrant initiatives, GALEO says it will work across the state to engage and educate both new voters and existing pool of over 150,000 Latino registered voters.

Officials say it will engage the Latino community and others to help by doing three things. First, GALEO is asking Latinos and the pro-immigrant community to help us in finding ten new eligible voters to register in time for the General Election. Secondly, GALEO is encouraging people to volunteer at least ten hours of service to help us accomplish these efforts. Third, GALEO is requesting that everyone in the community donate at least $10.00 to help us support our outreach efforts and to accomplish our goals of an engaged and energized electorate who will be an informed voter on the issues regarding immigration during the 2010 General Election.

The campaign will include the use of the website, www.latino2010.org, for information about the voting process in English and Spanish. In addition, the Georgia Latino Vote 2010 campaign will have a bilingual (English and Spanish) toll free hotline (1.888.54GALEO/1.888.544.2536) to answer any questions any voter may have regarding the voting process or to report any concerns people may have about exercising their right to vote. Furthermore, the Georgia Latino Vote campaign will roll out Spanish ads to run on Spanish radio, print and television. Spanish media has always been an effective partner in previous Georgia Latino Vote campaigns.

Meanwhile, Monday is the deadlne to register to vote in the July 20 primaries.
