EPD hears White Co. citizens' comments on LHR Farms

CLEVELAND - The Georgia Environmental Protection Division held a public meeting Tuesday night in Cleveland to answer questions and record comments on a land application system permit sought by LHR Farms, Inc. 

The company is seeking a permit to treat and spray irrigate wastewater from domestic septage and commercial wastes on land located on Joe Turner Drive in southern White County. This is an expansion of the current operation.

EPD spent a little over an hour answering questions and then heard 12 different people make official comments about the application.  About half of those commenting were in favor of the application, but those voicing opposition talked about the lack of oversight of the operation by the EPD and controlling the smell.
