In fact, Victor Lamar Johnson, the executive director of the Veterans and Community Outreach Center, says most of the toys have been replaced through donations.
But, Johnson told the Bill & Joel Morning Show on WDUN Tuesday morning he still needs clothing for boys and girls, from Pre-K through middle school.
"We will be there through Wednesday for anyone who wants to bring clothing items," Johnson said.
Johnson also says his phone has been "ringing off the hook" with people wanting help since the story about the break-in broke last Friday.
According to its Web site, the Veterans and Community Outreach Center, located in one of the poorest areas of Gainesville, was founded more than 25 years ago by five veterans, "determined to make a difference in the lives of people in crisis," and now reaches more than 3,000 people annually through its programs for youth and families at risk, and people seeking to rebuild their lives.
