DOT board member resigning

ATLANTA - State Department of Transportation Board member Bill Kuhlke - who represents parts of northeast Georgia - is resigning from the panel.

Kuhlke has served on the 13-member board for seven years and was its chairman for 27 months. His resignation becomes effective Dec. 31.

He represents the 10th congressional district which covers a swath of eastern Georgia from Athens to Augusta. In northeast Georgia, that includes: Banks, Clarke, Habersham, Jackson, Stephens, Towns, Union, Hart, Franklin, Madison and Elbert counties.

Kuhlke told the Augusta Chronicle that he'd become ``worn out'' and that it was time for someone with some new great ideas to join the panel, which oversees billions of dollars in road and highway money.

Members of the state Legislature from his district will elect his replacement. They're expected to choose a new member in January.
