DOT board to vote on major repaving projects

ATLANTA - The state Transportation Board is set to vote on repaving the northeast stretch of I-285, as well as I-75 south of the Perimeter and one in the Buford area.

The projects would be part of a $350 million statewide spending package.

A state transportation board committee approved the repaving plans on Wednesday. The full board is scheduled to vote Thursday.

Repaving the section of I-285 could mean major traffic headaches during the roadwork. The highway is already among the most congested in the nation.

For I-75, it would mean repaving from I-285 to Ga. 54 in Fulton and Clayton counties.

The projects also include right-of-way purchase for a widening of Georgia 20 in the Buford area from Burnette Trail to Peachtree Industrial Boulevard. Thatt project alone has a nearly $30 million price tag.

DOT officials say the $350 million they are divvying up now is a one-time rebate resulting from federal reimbursements to the state for past projects the state funded.
