ATHENS - University of Georgia officials hope a plan that provides more parking space for scooters will keep students from driving the contraptions on sidewalks.

Douglas Ross, head of auxiliary services at the university, says scooter riders made good points when they criticized the current system, which had riders park their scooters in corrals. Scooter riders say the corrals were inconvenient to classroom buildings.

Ross says scooter parking now will be next to streets or within surface parking lots on campus, so scooter drivers shouldn't be tempted to run their machines on sidewalks.
