TOCCOA - Dr. Bill Quarterman has been elected Chairman of the Georgia Composite Board of Professional Counselors, Social Workers, and Marriage and Family Therapists.

The board is charged by law with regulating the practice of professional counseling, social work, and marriage and family therapy in order to protect the health, safety, and welfare of the people of Georgia. The board, whose ten members are appointed by the Governor, gives special attention and oversight to requirements for licensure, continuing education, and the code of ethics pertaining to Georgia professionals.

The board conducts monthly meetings attended by the Licensed Professional Counselors Association (LPCA) and the National Association of Social Workers (NASW), which represent almost 9,000 members. Ms. Gale Macke, LPCA Executive Director, expressed her appreciation for the levity and strong work ethic Dr. Quarterman brings to the leadership of the board.

Dr. Quarterman, a professor and Director of the School of Counseling at Toccoa Falls College, has served on the Composite Standards Committee since 2004. He has been involved in leadership and teambuilding workshops with Coca-Cola, Nabisco, Delta Airlines, Ford Motor Company, and others. He is also in private practice at Quarterman and Associates in Toccoa. In August 2008 he was awarded the Life Saving Merit Award by Lt. Governor Casey Cagle during the Red Cross banquet for responding to cries of help after a young boy had apparently drowned and was being pulled from the water. Bill used CPR and was able to resuscitate him, saving the 12-year-oldâ
