WINDER - A Barrow County man has been busted on charges of growing marijuana in his home.

Matt Guthas, a spokesman for the Barrow County Sheriff's Office, says county drug agents arrested 55-year-old Lonnie Jones at his home on Highway 330 in Statham after receiving a tip that pot was being grown there, which led to an undercover investigation.

"Narcotics investigators were able to develop enough evidence through their investigation to obtain a search warrant," Guthas said. "Deputies recovered 78 marijuana plants and 3 ounces of dried marijuana."

Guthas added that "the plants themselves were young, but each had the potential of producing approximately one pound of marijuana when fully grown. If these plants made it to maturity, and were processed into dried marijuana, the total street value would exceed $85,000."

He said the three ounces of dried marijuana was wroth approximately $2,500.
