LULA - A vacant house near Lula has been declared a total loss following a fire Tuesday morning.

Hall County Fire Marshal Scott Cagle said firefighters arrived at 8272 Belton Bridge Road shortly before 8 a.m. to the sight of heavy smoke and fire.

Cagle said the blaze may have started in the basement but the cause was not immediately known. He said the owner, Ricky Armour, put the damage at about $125,000.

Cagle said the fire was reported by a passerby and since the house was in a "somewhat isolated area," it may have "had a pretty good head start on us."

He said though the 2,200-square-foot house was vacant, it was in the process of being rented and the the power was turned on.
