LAKELAND, Fla. - The victim of a fatal plane crash in Florida has been identified as Robert Dodson of Dahlonega.

Dodson, 63, died Monday afternoon about 5 p.m. when his single-engine Zenair CH-601 Zodiac went down in some woods in near Polk City.

Polk County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Carrie Rodgers said Dodson was on his way to the Sun 'n Fun Fly-In at the Lakeland, Fla., airport at the time. She said the plane crashed "nose first" into a thickly wooded area.

Rodgers said another Dahlonega man, Jerry Morris, was about an hour ahead of Dodson, and also headed to the fly-in. She said he last spoke with Dodson about 2:45 p.m. Monday by radio, and was told by Dodson that he was having a routine flight.
