Buford will go for its sixth state football championship, while Flowery Branch aims for its first this weekend at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta -- and both contests will be broadcast on WDUN AM-550.

The Wolves (14-0) will play Calhoun (12-2) at 5 p.m. Friday for the Class AA title.

The Falcons (12-2) face Cairo (13-0) at 5 p.m. Saturday for the Class AAA crown.

Flowery Branch will be the first team from Hall County to play for a GHSA state football championship since Gainesville High fell to Bainbridge 7-6 in 1982. The Falcons reached the championship round by defeating LaGrange 28-0 in the semifinals.

Flowery Branch has leaned on its defense and ground game through much of the playoffs and did so again this past week, as the Falcons defense shut out the Grangers and fullback Daniel Drummond rushed for 251 yards and three touchdowns.

Meanwhile, Buford has also relied on its rushing attack and a rock-solid defense.

The Wolves rolled up 242 yards rushing in their 44-21 win over Fitzgerald in the Class AA semifinals Friday night. Running backs Cody Getz and Storm Johnson split the damage, carrying for 101 and 125 yards respectively.

Meanwhile, the Buford defense allowed just 115 yards rushing against the Purple Hurricanes' wing-T attack and never let the visitors get closer than 14-7 after the second quarter.

Both games will take place at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta -- former site of the GHSA semifinals. It will be the Wolves eighth trip to the Dome, while the Falcons are making their first.
