City Manager Dennis Bergin said Lula is replacing its obsolete treatment pond plant with a facility that meets new state requirements.
"The Environmental Protection Division sert new load standards for the pollutants and we're able to meet those new load requirements," Bergin said.
With an E.P.D. allocation of 1.8 MGD (Million Gallons per Day),Bergin added Lula will partner with Hall County to expand the plant to meet future demands in the city and surrounding Northeast Hall County with minimal negative impact to adjoining property.
"It serves an 8,000 acre drainage basin and from an economic standpoint is a God's send for the 365 overlay corridor as well as residential development and not have an adverse effect on the environment," Bergin said.
Bergin expects construction bids on the project to be let in August on the 27 acre site located 4800 feet Northeast of the intersection of State Highways 52 and 365.
