Plenty of fireworks for the 4th

UNDATED - Things are expected to go "boom" in the night for three or four straight nights starting Friday because this year's July 4 holiday falls on the weekend - and there's no shortage of places to see a fireworks show in our area.

One of the first fireworks displays in the area will take place Friday night in Cornelia as part of the Habersham Homecoming Celebration. Friday night fireworks are also scheduled in Hiawassee at the Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds.

As for the ones you are probably most familiar with right here in the immediate Gainesville area, fireworks displays are planned Sunday night - the fourth - at the American Legion on Riverside Drive, Chateau Elan in Braselton, Lake Lanier Islands, and at Lanier National Speedway as part of the annual July 4 races.

(Elsewhere on this site you can find a detailed list of planned July 4 fireworks displays in North Georgia.)

Weather permitting, a variety of other July 4 activities across northeast Georgia will keep thousands of people busy starting Friday night and continuing through Monday. In Gainesville, the festivities include the annual Gainesville Symphony Patriotic Pops Concert at the Brenau Amphitheatre which will be held Saturday night. A number of churches will be having special services, including Lakewood Baptist, Free Chapel, and the Rock.
