GAINESVILLE - The longtime headmaster at Lakeview Academy in Gainesville has announced plans to retire.

Ferrell Singleton says he plans to step down at the end of the next school year.

Singleton has been the school's headmaster since 1979.

He says when he retires next year he'll be ending a 42-year career in independent school education.

Singleton, in a letter to Jock Hornor, the chairman of the Lakeview Academy Board of Trustees, says he hopes that by giving 18 months notice, the board will have "appropriate time" to find the right person to lead the school.
