GAINESVILLE - The state rested its case Wednesday in the murder trial of 45-year-old Mark Shackelford of Flowery Branch which began Monday in Hall County Superior Court.

Shackelford is charged with beating his older brother, Michael Shackelford, to death with a piece of wood during an argument in April 2002.

Defense attorneys - who say their client was acting in self-defense - began presenting their case Wednesday.
