Female inmate work-release program wanted by Hall County sheriff

GAINESVILLE - The Hall County Sheriff wants the old Regional Youth Detention Center on Vine Street in Gainesville to be the site of a new female inmate work-release program.

Steve Cronic says the facility has been well maintained and should require few changes in order to be used.

He says 17 women in the program the first year could save the county around $217,000 and almost pay all operational expenses.

The Hall County commission will consider funding the women's work-release during its mid-year budget review in December.
