BRASELTON - Ribbon-cutting and opening ceremonies were held Thursday in Braselton for a new furniture distribution center expected to employ more than 300 people.

Haverty's built the $25 million, 932,000-square-foot complex next to the Mayfield Dairy plant. Plans for the compelx were announced a year ago.

It replaces regional distribution centers in Charlotte, North Carolina, and Atlanta.

Those centers were at capacity and could not be expanded, according to Haverty's officials.

They said Braselton was chosen over several other potential sites - one of them in Gwinnett County and the other in South Carolina - because of the easy access to I-85.
