Delta Air Lines pilot allegedly tests positive for alcohol use

NORFOLK, VIRGINIA - A Delta Air Lines pilot has been suspended after he failed an alcohol test and caused a flight he was co-piloting to be delayed an hour. <br> <br> The pilot, 42-year-old Gary Alan Schroeder of Yorktown, Virginia has been issued a summons accusing him of violating a city code that makes it illegal for an aircraft pilot to be under the influence of alcohol. <br> <br> He registered a blood-alcohol level of point-oh-seven percent after being taken off an airplane at Norfolk International Airport Thursday. <br> <br> The Federal Aviation Administration&#39;s limit for a flight crew member is .04. <br> <br> Norfolk Airport Authority Executive Director Ken Scott says baggage screeners detected alcohol on Schroeder&#39;s breath when he arrived to co-pilot the Delta flight to Cincinnati. <br> <br> Scott said Schroeder was cooperative and agreed to board a flight to Delta headquarters in Atlanta. <br> <br> FAA regulations prohibit pilots from drinking alcohol within eight hours of duty.
