Lynda Truluck Stewart

Obituary Date: Sunday, October 7, 2018

"Lynda" Anne Truluck Stewart passed away Sunday evening, October 7, 2018 at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center.  Her son, daughter and granddaughter were with her.
Lynda was born on December 8th, 1938 and raised in Jefferson, GA, where she and "Woody" Stewart became sweethearts throughout high school and college.  She graduated from Piedmont Nursing School in Atlanta, followed by a successful career as a Registered Nurse.  After Lynda and Woody were married in 1961, Woody entered the United States Army and served as First Lieutenant in Okinawa, Japan, taking with him his new bride who worked as a nurse in the Army hospital.  Upon their return home to the United States, Lynda worked at Charity Hospital, New Orleans while Woody attended Tulane Law School.
In 1966, they moved to Gainesville.  Lynda worked at Hall County Hospital, as it was known then, principally as an Operating Room nurse.  After successful years of service in this capacity, Lynda continued her education in the Brenau College School of Nursing where she found a teaching vocation.  She was recognized as an instructor who inspired students to embrace a devoted nursing career.
When Lynda decided to retire, she did so to spend more time with her family and friends.  Lynda was supportive of her husband's dedication to philanthropic work, especially with the Northeast Georgia Medical Center where Woody chaired the Northeast Georgia Medical Center Foundation, helping to launch the Heart Center program.  As for herself, Lynda was an active community participant in various organizations including the Gainesville Junior Service League, the Dig and Spring Garden Club, the Creative Arts Club, the Flower Guild at Grace Episcopal Church, and Quinlan Visual Arts Center.  Lynda had a great eye for design and color, not only in fabrics and clothes, but in painting- an interest she decided to pursue.  In 2003, she joined the artists at The Blue Angel Studio.  Her paintings have been exhibited both in Gainesville and nearby communities.  She was also a member of the Georgia Art League and took classes from several nationally known artists.

One of Lynda's God-given gifts, that friends will evermore remember, was her willingness to help others whenever needed.  She had a servant's heart.  She was truly a good friend!

But most of all, Lynda's greatest joys were her children and her grandchildren.  She is survived by her daughter, Paige Stewart Green, Gainesville; son, Todd Woodrow Stewart, Gainesville; grandson, Jack Wilmon "Will" Green, Tallahassee, FL; granddaughter, Garrett Elizabeth Green, Gainesville;  brother, Daniel Truluck, Gainesville; brother, Donald Truluck and sister-in-law, Sue Truluck, Watkinsville; stepmother, Nancy Truluck and half sister, Jeannie Truluck, both of Panama City, FL.

Lynda was preceded in death by her father, Fred Truluck; her mother, Annelle Truluck Owensby; and her husband, Wilmon Woodrow Stewart, who passed away in 2012.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Monday October 15th at 2:00 p.m., Grace Episcopal Church, Gainesville.  Officiating will be the Reverend Dr. Stuart Higginbotham and the Reverend Dr. Cynthia Park.  After the Service, a Reception will be held in the Parish Hall, where many of Lynda's paintings will be on display to honor her love of art.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Grace Episcopal Church, 422 Brenau Avenue, Gainesville, GA 30501; The Northeast Georgia Medical Center Foundation, 2150 Limestone Pkwy, Suite 115, Gainesville, GA 30501; or Quinlan Visual Arts Center, 514 Green Street, Gainesville, GA 30501.
