George Robert Davenport

Obituary Date: Monday, August 6, 2018

George Robert Davenport, Jr., age 61, of Gainesville passed away on Monday, August 6, 2018 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

Bob was born in Laurens, South Carolina on March 11, 1957 to the late George Robert “Rock” Davenport, Sr. and Lucille Bolt Davenport. He was a Gainesville High School graduate of the Class of 1975 before attending Georgia Southern University where he was a Kappa Sigma Alumnus. Bob also spent four years proudly serving our country in the National Guard.

Bob spent most of his life in commercial construction developing many lifelong relationships and friends. Known for his knowledge, integrity, warm nature and contagious smile, he became very successful in his work. For the last five years of his time, Bob was employed as a Project Manager at Martin Construction and Grading in Toccoa, Georgia. His boss, Harlan Martin and coworkers had become beloved friends.

Bob had a love for the outdoors and was an avid fisherman. Competing in tournaments and successfully inventing and developing a fishing trolling device with his brother David and dear friends, Louis Gibbs and Robby Robinson, was an accomplishment he treasured.

Bob is preceded in death by his father George Robert “Rock” Davenport, Sr., his mother Lucille Bolt Davenport and older brother Mark Livingston Davenport. He is survived by the mother of his children, Anne Lipscomb Davenport, his son George Robert Davenport, III (Trey) and his daughter Lindsay Davenport Allison and her husband A.J. He is also survived by four precious grandchildren Kylie, J.R., Michael and Gabriel. Other survivors include his sister, Marjorie Davenport McCrory, his brother, David Bolt Davenport and his wife Tammy, and four nieces and nephews, Maranda, David, Jr., Haley and Karey.

The family will accept visitors at Little & Davenport Funeral Home on Friday, August 10th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A celebration of life will be held at the Pavilion at Gainesville Marina on Saturday, August 11, 2018 at 10:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you would make a donation to the Northeast Georgia Medical Center Foundation for the Ronnie Green Heart Center.
