James Richard Parsons

James Richard Parsons, 97, of Gainesville, Georgia, formerly of Vermilion, Ohio, went on to his new journey on April 3, 2018.

Mr. Parsons was born 6:30 AM Tuesday August 18th, 1920 to Jim and Rose Parsons at their home in Wakeman, Ohio and was a member of St. Michaels Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents Jim and Rose (Schoettli) Parsons of Wakeman Ohio; his beloved first wife of 31 years Suzanne Kirwin Parsons of Newport, Rhode Island; son Jimmie 8 months; brother William F. Parsons of Painesville, Ohio; sister Aletha Loise Parsons Smith of North Madison, Ohio; and sister Bertha Elnora (Parsons) Gartman of Elyria, Ohio.

Mr. Parsons is survived by his beloved wife of 35 years, Jeannie Marie (Hook) Parsons of Attica, Ohio; daughter Charlotte A. Thompson of Steuben, Maine; son John K. Parsons of West Bridgewater, Massachusetts; daughter Anna E. (Parsons) Martin of Vermilion, Ohio; son Andrew J. Parsons of Sarasota, Florida; step daughters Tammy R. Collins of Attica, Ohio, and Shelly D. Duffy of Gainesville, Georgia; 11 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; and his little dog Elliott.

Lt. JG James R. Parsons U.S.N.R. served in the U.S. Navy January 21, 1942 thru February 22, 1946. He served the V12 program for one term at Dartmouth in Hanover, New Hampshire and attended Mid Shipman School for two months at North Western University in Chicago, Illinois.

He received his first commission as Ensign and went aboard USS Izard. He was promoted to Lt. JG Torpedo Officer in charge of depth charges, smoke generators and torpedoes.

Mr. Parsons served in WWll as torpedo officer on a DD589 USS Izard; he participated in every major attack following Midway.

Mr. Parsons owned and operated Parsons House Moving for 35 years and Parsons Boat Moving for 20 years. Mr. Parsons was the Secretary of Ohio’s House Mover’s Association. Mr. Parsons also spent 15 years at Rigging Machinery Setting for Gliden Paint Company and was a real estate agent for 16 years.

He was an avid scouter, having been awarded Eagle Scout in 1937. He served as Scout Master after the war on two separate occasions and spent one term as cub master.

Mr. Parsons was the 14-year assistant chief and driver for Wakeman Fire Department, Charter member of the American Legion Post #397, a life member of the Amvets, member of Lorain County Voiture 40/8, a member of the Congregational Church of Wakeman for approximately 45 years and St. Mary’s Catholic Church, until relocating to Gainesville, Georgia.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at the Lake Lanier Mobile Home Community, 3000 Clarks Bridge Road, Gainesville, Georgia 30501. The family requests that everyone meets at the pavilion; patriotic balloons will lead the way.
