He is survived by his wife of sixty years, Bernie Breedlove Howington, Buford, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Emily Howington Bailey and husband, Tommy, Flowery Branch, GA; son, David Howington and fiancée, Jodi Bryant, Buford, GA; grandchildren, Torrey Bailey, Flowery Branch, GA, Bridget Bailey, Flowery Branch, GA and Cale Mathis, Buford, GA; sisters, Jean Jordan, Hammond, Louisiana, and Ruth Compton, Marietta, GA; brothers, Carl Howington, Norcross, GA and Reuben Howington, Buford, GA; brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws, Ed and Genevieve Breedlove, Buford, GA, and Cecil and Mildred Breedlove, Buford, GA; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. A special thank you to Grady’s lunch buddy and caregiver over the past years, David Jones and Chelsea Martin.  Mr. Howington was born October 20, 1936, in Buford, GA.  He was the 5th and youngest child born at home in Buford, GA to Tifton T. and Barbara Roberts Howington.  He was a 1954 graduate of Sugar Hill School, Sugar Hill, GA. He was owner of Howington Grading Company for over forty-five years. A Remembrance Service will be held on Thursday, March 29, 2018 at 4:30 p.m. in the Chapel of Flanigan Funeral Home with Pastor Rick Patchin officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, March 29, 2018 from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service at 4:30 p.m.

Grady was an extremely hard worker who expected no less than the best from those who worked with him.  His ingenuity and common sense, along with the mechanical ability to fix anything and improvise when needed, made him a successful business owner. Grady was a simple man and made do with whatever he had.  His character and quick wit truly made him one of a kind. He would always be willing to share the honest truth with you, and a good joke as well, while smoking his pipe and studying on the latest politics sitting by his wood stove in his barn. His wisdom and witty character will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
