Mary Jane Ghent

Obituary Date: Wednesday, February 14, 2018

Mary Jane Ghent, age 78 of Gainesville, Georgia passed away peacefully in her sleep on February 14, 2018. Mary Jane was diagnosed with Adrenal Cancer this past October.

Mary Jane was born on October 15, 1939 to the late Dr. Oliver Thaddeus Ghent and Mary Louise Ghent. Mary Jane was 11 years old when her family moved to Gainesville.  Where she has resided for the past 67 years. Mary Jane graduated from Gainesville High School in 1957. She continued her education at the University of Georgia, where she earned a Masters degree in Arts. Mary Jane was a proud and faithful member of Grace Episcopal Church where she became the first female Lay Reader in the 190 year history of Grace Episcopal Church. Mary Jane was very involved in her church and in her community, especially with the Arts Council and the History Center.
   

In addition to both parents, Mary Jane is preceded in death by her brother, Peter Andrews Ghent, Sr. and nephew, Peter Andrews Ghent, Jr.. She is survived by son and daughter in law, Thad and Christy Cronic of Gainesville; Grandchildren, Bentley and Bryson Cronic of Cleveland.  Daughter Christy Cronic, of Cleveland; Grandchildren Jade and Jena Millwood of Cleveland. Mary Jane's first grandchild is due in July of 2018.

Also survived by her nieces: Gail Hunt of Oklahoma and Judy Mink of Ohio.


Visitation is scheduled for Monday, February 19, 2018 from 6-8p.m. at Little-Davenport Funeral Home in Gainesville. Memorial Service is scheduled for Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at 2p.m. at Grace Episcopal Church in Gainesville. The family will remain at the church following the memorial service to receive friends and family for visitation and fellowship.

Flowers are accepted or donations can be made payable to the Arts Council of Gainesville or to the History Center of Gainesville.
