Christy Denise Jordan Meeks-Gaines

Obituary Date: Thursday, January 25, 2018

Christy Denise Jordan Meeks-Gaines of Gainesville, Georgia died on Thursday, Jan 25, 2018 after a brief illness. She was born in McMinnville, Tennessee on December 12, 1968 to Reverend and Mrs. Gerald McCoy Jordan. 

She was the youngest of three daughters.

She was preceded in death by her husband and the father of her children, Steven Wade Meeks and her father, Rev. Gerald McCoy Jordan.  She is survived by her husband, William Harvey Gaines; sons Evan Meeks, Alden Meeks, Reagan Meeks; daughters Macie Meeks and Shana Meeks; her mother,

Olene Jordan, all of Gainesville, Georgia; her sisters, Linda and Chuck Green of Calais, Maine; Randy and Geraldine (Jelly) Valimont of Griffin, Georgia; a host of nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins from all over the world.

Christy was a 1986 graduate of Gainesville High School in Gainesville, Georgia where was a member of the marching band, playing the flute for her entire high school career.  She also graduated from Southeastern University in Lakeland, Florida in 1990 with a Sacred Music degree. As a college student Christy was greatly involved in musical ensembles and choirs, traveling extensively throughout her college years. Christy was a musician and a vocalist, spending much of her life in music ministry of local churches. For many years Christy was the minister of music at Evangel Assembly of God (now Life Point Church) and most recently was the lead worship leader at The River in Murrayville, Georgia.  She was also a private voice and piano teacher, pouring her skills into the lives of children and adults.

During her last days, Christy expressed that one of her greatest desires was for people to know that she embraced her friends and loved everyone, regardless of the color of their skin, their race, political party, spiritual standpoint, or life differences.  Her husband, William Gaines, stated, “Christy redefined what it meant to love and be loved. “

During recent months there have been so many friends and family who assisted with Christy’s care.  The family would like to thank special

friends Liz Alman, Cheryl Wright, Heidi Smith, and Nyoka Brooks who went above and beyond in helping with meals, transportation, emotional and spiritual support.  Gratitude can never be properly expressed for all you did during this time.

The family will receive visitors at Memorial Park North in Gainesville, Georgia on Friday, January 26, 6:00 -8:00pm and on Saturday 2:00-2:45pm. 

The funeral service will be held in the chapel at Memorial Park North on Saturday, January 27 at 3:00pm with interment following at Memorial Park cemetery.
