Charles R. Pulliam

Obituary Date: Sunday, December 17, 2017

Charles R. Pulliam, 88, of Cumming, GA, a long-time resident of Farmington, IL died Sunday, December 17, 2017.

Born October 9, 1929 in Winchester, IL to Curtis and Fern (Stierwalt) Pulliam, he married Martha Elizabeth (Betty) Wood May 23, 1954 in Flora, IL.  She preceded him in death on November 8, 2015.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Dorothy Davis; and his brother, Paul Pulliam.

Surviving are his daughter, Paula (Frank) Frangella of Oak Forest, IL; sons, Curtis (Joni) of Utica, NY, and George (Pamela) of Cumming, GA; and four grandchildren, Avery, Christopher, Nicholas, and Katherine.

Charles was an Air Force veteran and served in the Korean War.  After returning from Korea and completing military service, Charles graduated from Eastern Illinois University, where he received a M.S. in Education.  He retired in 1986 after serving 24 years as principal of Farmington East High School.  He had previously taught Speech and English in Springfield, IL and Auburn, IL.   Following retirement from education, he was a seasonal manager of the Arts and Crafts Center at the Green Lake Conference Center/American Baptist Assembly in Green Lake, WI for 11 summers.

Charles was a member of the First Baptist Church, Cumming.  He had served as a Deacon, Trustee, and Moderator at his former church, First Baptist Church of Farmington.  He also had been a member of the Chenoa Baptist Church, the General Board of American Baptist Churches, USA, a member of the Farmington City Council, the Flora Masonic Lodge #204, and the Valley of Peoria Scottish Rite.  He volunteered at the Farmington Council of Churches Food Bank and Proctor Hospital in Peoria, IL. 

A memorial service will be held next spring in Illinois.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Farmington Central Academic Foundation, PO Box 21, Trivoli, IL or a charity of the donor’s choice.
